Emily Beecroft’s story is a testament to what you can achieve with determination and resilience. Her incredible talent in the pool has captivated people across the Nation and secured her a spot on the Paralympic team for Paris 2024.
Emily got into swimming at a young age, following one of her sisters. She now competes in the S9 category at the Paralympics due to a deficiency in her right arm and deafness in her left ear. This however never held her back from her desires to reach her dreams in sport.
Her breakthrough to the 2016 Rio Paralympics, started her world stage career. Despite not placing, it set her off to show great improvements in her national and international competitions.
The Tokyo 2020 Paralympics allowed Emily to show her skills once more, achieving a silver and bronze medal. This was then continued in the Commonwealth games where she achieved another silver medal for the Women’s 100m Butterfly S9.
Now Emily is off to her third Paralympic games in Paris for two events. Through the support of her team at USC Spartans she was able to maximise her potential in the water.
Emily wrote on her Instagram following her success in the Paralympic swim trials;
‘I am always honoured to be a part of an Australian Team, especially a Paralympic Team, but this year I can feel will be different. I have never been as fit, strong and as fast as I am this year, so I am excited to see what I can do over in Paris!’
Emily’s determination and skill is an inspiration to many, striving to be the best athlete that she can. As she prepares for Paris 2024, not only will the Sunshine Coast community be supporting, but the rest of the Nation.
